Landscaping Design and Ideas 
There are many ways to beat a path to your door, but few as inviting as natural stone steps. By staggering them slightly and planting greenery near by, you can create a very natural look. Most people don't use large boulders in their landscaping, perhaps because of the weight and cost of these types of landscaping elements, but that's exactly what makes them so appealing. You don't see them everywhere. 
Use repetition of the same type of plant to bring more unity into your garden and landscape design. Many times people use too much variety and then the design falls apart because there needs to be some kind of unifying factor beyond green. Notice the repetition of the rounded bushes in the foreground near the steps and the repetition of that same shape up near the home itself. Just as you might use repetition on the interior to bring unity to the inside of the home, use it on the exterior as well. 
Repetition is also used here, not just in the foliage of the ferns, but in the pottery. Large architectural urns add another decorating element to this garden that takes it from ordinary to spectacular. Look for ways to tighten up your front and back yard so that it appears full and complete. Avoid large gaps where nothing is going on. This technique also helps to eliminate weeds.
