How to Decorate Stairs
Hanging
art in the stairwell is always tricky. There's just no easy way to
do it. And the more elaborate a grouping you make, the more
difficult it is to get the spacing and design correct. In the
photos below you'll notice that the before pictures show some pretty
chaotic-looking walls. There is no rhyme or reason to the way the art
has been hung because over time, pictures have been added or taken away
and replaced, and the grouping once there is no longer attractive.

AFTER
However, in the redesigned grouping
on the right, the "holes" in the grouping have been filled,
the sizes have been adjusted to be in proper scale, the spacing is
more uniform and the overall effect is much more pleasing to the eye.
We've written two exclusive and very
informative books dealing with the subject of designing wall
groupings, and how to hang art work, whether it be a single image or
an elaborate gallery wall. The first book is called "Where
There's a Wall - There's a Way" and the second is an ebook we
just published called, "The Secret Art of Hanging
Art". Read on for more information on both.

I've been a corporate art
consultant in Southern California for the past 20 years and I've
published a book of 101 wall grouping ideas, together with the design
principles you should know before decorating any wall with a wall
grouping or gallery wall design.
The book is 128 pages of
illustrations, including sizes, templates, installation tips and
photographs. It incorporates framed art, mirrors, shelves, plants,
and objects d'art into the designs and has been used as a wall grouping
textbook by several colleges.
